Some of history's truly great automobiles have been born from engineers working off the clock, building experimental projects far from the prying eyes of company brass and the meddling of the accounting department. Especially within large companies, radical ideas will surely be nixed if merely presented on paper. One such engineer was erich waxenberger of mercedes-benz. In the late 1960s, herr waxenberger came up with the simple but elegant idea of the ultimate factory super sedan. Starting with a standard w109 sedan, a car that left the factory with nothing bigger than a 3-liter inline-six, and working on his own time, he shoehorned in the mighty 6. 3 liter all-alloy m100 v8 into the mid-sized saloon. The m100 was designed specifically for the highly exclusive 600 sedan and limousine, but waxenberger believed that not only could he build a superb sporting saloon using the smaller body, he could better utilize the specialized production facility that was building these massive engines. He and his team built a prototype and handed the keys over to mercedes-benz factory test driver rudi uhlenhaut. The legend is that uhlenhaut had to stop and open the hood at the first traffic signal to see what on earth waxenberger had crammed into the 300sel! Buoyed by the enthusiasm from uhlenhaut, the car saw rapid approval by company bosses, especially given that the expensive m100 engine could now be sold in another car. In fact, the 300sel 6. 3 could give a contemporary porsche 911 a serious run for its money. Road & track magazine declared it "merely the greatest sedan in the world". While less expensive than the 600, the 6. 3 was still a costly car when new, and just 6,500 were built between 1968 and 1972. The 6. 3 served its purpose as a regular production outlet for the m100 v8, as well as forming the foundation of a legacy of high-performance luxury sedans that mercedes-benz still upholds with the amg line of super saloons. This 1970 300sel 6. 3 is an attractive and understated example, finished in light ivory (code 670) over red leather upholstery (code 242). It is a very well-maintained and largely original car, accompanied by extensive service records from model specialists. The body is straight and clean, with an attractive, good quality respray over an excellent body. The original bumpers, body moldings, grille, window surrounds and other brightwork are all straight and in good order, benefitting from a recent polish. This 6. 3 is in many ways the ultimate sleeper: understated, with only its discreet badging and a slightly wider stance giving the slightest hint at its massive acceleration and 140mph ability. The leather is believed to be original, and presents in very good condition, showing a slight bit of wear on the driver's outer bolster, but remaining attractive and supple with an inviting light patina. The rear seat is in similar condition, showing little use. Wool carpets are excellent as are the door panels and recently refreshed headlining. It is also equipped with an original becker mexico cassette player and correct ivory steering wheel. Mechanically this car is in very sound order and is essentially turn-key and ready to enjoy. Records show the air suspension was fully rebuilt, as was the complex fuel injection pump; rebuilt by respected specialist jerry fairchild. The steering box was removed and resealed, and many bushings and ancillaries refreshed in the chassis. It works as it should and is a strong performing example, a very important factor when considering any 6. 3. Included in the sale are original books, manuals and tool kit along with the extensive service records and factory service information. This is a cherished example that has had thousands spent to ensure it continues to thrill drivers for years to come. Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels

This 1967 gt500 convertible clone is a nicely restored car that was driven daily by the last owner when the weather permitted. Out back, the car uses leafs and standard shocks. Bringing this killer driving car to a stop is a set of baer brakes on all 4 corners fed by a power master unit. The wheels are 18” american racing wheels, and the tires are modern hankooks. The car has a great looking stance and a very smooth ride on the street. The interior features a set of 5” autometer gauges, which accurately display all of the mustang’s vitals. The brushed steering column has the tilt function and the steering wheel is a reproduction of the original gt 500 shelby set up. The interior features all reproduction covers and new carpeting as well, and looks sharp, and very clean.  the stereo is a retro sound unit that’s powerful enough to have good clarity when the top is down. Keeping things cool is a modern ac unit that make hot weather driving a pleasure.   the motor is the mighty 460 with an edelbrock intake, 6a box, blaster coil, and pro billet distributor. This torquey beast of a motor exhales through a set of coated headers and aluminized exhaust pipes which produce a crisp exhaust note out the side pipes. Keeping the motor cool is an aluminum radiator with dual electric fans.   for the mustang enthusiast looking for a nice blend of classic style with some modern upgrades, this car is a riot.  . Founded in 1852, the studebaker brothers manufacturing company was a wagon builder who went on to become one of the only american companies of its type to successfully transition to automobile production at the turn of the century. While still selling their wagons and coaches, they formed an early partnership with e-m-f to sell automobiles at studebaker dealers. Quality issues with e-m-f led to studebaker taking over that firm's automobile line and the rest, as they say, is history. Studebaker remained staunchly independent in the face of competition from gm, ford and chrysler. They produced many a great car, and particularly in the post-war era, were not afraid to take some daring stylistic risks to stand out against the might of the big three. Yet as the 1940s rolled into the 1950s, studebaker began to struggle financially and their product line became more and more staid and dated. Just 37 days into his tenure as the top man at studebaker, egbert sketched out a concept while on a plane out of south bend, handed it to his hugely talented design team and demanded quick action. The somewhat antiquated chassis was reworked by engineer eugene hardig to resemble a sporting car. Given the complexity and subtlety of the avanti's curves, fiberglass was chosen as the most cost effective material to build the bodywork. Although production of the avanti lasted only two years, with fewer than 6,000 built, it has rightly earned its place as a stylistic icon; one of the greatest designs of the era and a significant piece of both studebaker history and automotive history as a whole. The car has seen regular, sympathetic use and maintenance and remains in wonderful order. Finished in turquoise over a handsome turquoise and beige interior, this is a super-attractive example of studebaker's most famous car. The fiberglass body is straight and free of typical waves and warping that sometimes afflicts these cars, while the gaps and panel fit are consistent and even. Paint work, in the original turquoise, is very well presented and the car rides on with proper factory steel wheels fitted with the signature avanti polished wheel covers and wrapped with proper narrow whitewall tires. Original options included tinted glass, sunshade windshield, radio, electric screen washer and seatbelts. It has been usefully upgraded with a discreetly installed vintage-air air-conditioning unit and an am/fm stereo with auxiliary input. Being an r2, the studebaker 289 cubic inch v8 is equipped with the optional paxton supercharger, which pushed power output to a healthy 280 horsepower. When backed by the optional 4-speed manual transmission, this avanti certainly delivers performance to match the looks. The engine presents quite well; nicely detailed in largely original condition. While it shows some light use it still looks great, particularly with that big paxton blower off to the side. Per the build sheet, this car is also equipped with power steering and a "twin traction" limited slip rear differential. Recent mechanical work includes a comprehensive suspension refresh with new bushes, rebuilt springs, new dampers and the addition of factory quick-ratio steering arms to sharpen the handling. The disc brakes (the first on an american production car) and power steering hydraulics were also rebuilt at this time, ensuring the car is ready for action. Finished in desirable colors and in the best factory specification, it strikes a fine balance of being pretty enough for casual show yet completely suitable for regular driving. This finely presented, very well-sorted avanti r2 is a great example of this early 1960s icon. AM/FM

Like the jeep and the land rover before it, the toyota land cruiser is a vehicle whose reputation was hard earned in battle, mud, and desert sand. This japanese take on the all-purpose off-roader can thank the original jeep for its existence, which is little surprise when comparing the two trucks side-by-side. in 1950, the us government commissioned toyota to build 100 willys jeeps that were to be used in the korean war. Toyota obliged but immediately saw room for improvement on the old american design. In 1951 toyota developed their own prototype drawing on the best the jeep and the land rover had to offer. Production of the "toyota jeep bj" began in 1953 and the vehicle was put into service primarily for police and military. In 1954, the civilian version gained the land cruiser name and grew in popularity as an all-round utility vehicle for farmers or anyone needing to get over rough terrain. In 1960, the 40-series land cruiser was unveiled with all-new body styling, an improved chassis and new engine options. 40-series land cruisers were offered in a variety of body styles ranging from the most popular short-wheelbase convertible, to long wheelbase troop carriers and pickups. Also, like the land rover and jeep, it was highly adaptable and saw duty in battle, fire service, ambulance service and countless other industrial and agricultural roles. It served at the hands of soldiers and warlords alike on virtually every continent around the globe. In regular production for 24 years, the fj has become a legend for its amazing ruggedness as much as its tough-guy good looks. Hundreds of thousands of land cruiser fj40s are still in service in all corners of the earth, no matter how remote they may be. This fabulous truck has been treated to a sympathetic but comprehensive restoration including new many suspension and driveline components. It drives exceptionally well, and we have thoroughly enjoyed putting a few miles on this fine fj. The body is very good and authentically restored, showing the subtle seams and imperfections it would have had when it left the factory in 1979. This example is equipped with the desirable "ambulance door" arrangement in the back, making ingress and egress easier for rear passengers, and allowing access to the rear without moving the swing-out spare tire. Like the body, the paintwork is very good. It has not been over-restored, but it is very attractive and in a fabulous original color that suits the rugged styling very well. Exterior trim is correctly restored; the painted bumpers and white painted grille surround keeping in line with the basic, sturdy appeal. Nice details such as the japanese koito headlamps point to the level of care given this outstanding fj. The front bucket seats and rear jump seats are upholstered in correct gray vinyl which is in excellent condition, showing virtually no wear. The only deviation from standard is the application of textured bedliner material which not only provides a layer of protection for the bare floors, but also helps to reduce vibration and dampen cabin sounds. The bedliner has been painted body color to mimic the factory interior treatment. Rubber mats also provide a bit of additional protection. Brakes are strong, steering is tight and the truck sits proudly on its 31" x 10" bf goodrich all-terrain ta tires - which look particularly good on the basic, gray painted steelies adorned with dog-dish hubcaps as original. As part of the restoration, the suspension has been thoroughly refreshed with high-quality old man emu components used throughout. Toyota's virtually bulletproof 2f inline-six displaces 4. 2 liters and returns 135 horsepower and a quite useful 210 ft. On this truck, the engine bay is extremely well-detailed with original decals and labels in place, and a superbly clean presentation. The high quality, well-detailed restoration lends great looks to match the excellent mechanical condition. Bucket Seats

This 1957 chevy is looks like a mild custom, but it rides on a full chassis, with an awesome zz430 power plant and cold ac.   this hot chevy rides on a totally new chassis; a jim meyer frame constructed of 2x4 inch steel complete with tubular control arms, coilover shocks, a 4 link rear end, and rack and pinion steering. The ride is fantastic, and handling is on point, and this tri-five has a much more refined feel than the factory ride. Bringing the chevy to a halt is a set of power wilwood disc brakes and the 210 rides on a set of billet specialties wheels with modern radials. The motor exhales through a set of coated headers that flow into a 2. 5 inch aluminized exhaust system.   powered by the gm performance zz430, this 210 is no slouch! This 4 bolt main 350 crate engine is a killer pump gas engine with a very practical 9. 6:1 compression ratio. The heart and soul of the motor is the time tested zz4 short block topped off with a set of the gm performance fast burn cylinder heads and the gm hot cam. It pump out a stout 430 hp and 430 ft lbs making it the perfect candidate for spirited cruising. Higher speed driving is a cinch with the 700 r4 overdrive transmission and out back is a set of 3. 50 gears making for a nice combination of acceleration smooth highway driving.   the interior is done in ultra leather and features a modern set of gauges, a tilt column, and a modern digital radio. Keeping things cool is modern ac system that integrates with a factory style climate control levers.   for the tri five nut that wants a ‘57 that they can drive anywhere. This car is dialed it, sorted out and ready to rock.  . Climate Control✔ Air Conditioning

The civilian willys pickup truck is perhaps not as well-known as the ubiquitous jeep cj universal utility vehicle, but it is nonetheless a very important machine that helped set the stage for the pickup becoming one of america's most popular vehicles. Willys overland wisely capitalized on the "war hero" status of the jeep, expanding the line into pickups and utility wagons proved a very wise move. Introduced to the market in 1947, the jeep truck shared the same basic architecture as the station wagon. This 1948 willys-overland jeep truck is far and away one of the best we've ever encountered. It has been treated to a full nut and bolt restoration with careful attention paid to detail and accuracy. The attractive two-tone light blue paintwork is a factory correct color scheme, the darker blue main body and bed highlighted by light blue panels on the doors and roof. Body color steel wheels are unadorned with hubcaps or trim rings, with subtle red pin stripes being the only nod to decoration. The wheels are wrapped in chunky, period correct off-road tires that give the jeep a fabulous, purposeful look. A single spare wheel is mounted to the bed side as original, allowing for an unobstructed cargo area. It is equipped with an original power take-off on the rear bumper, complete with the original safety guard. Paint finish is outstanding, and the body fit is appropriately consistent with a utilitarian machine such as this. The bed appears to have never been used since the restoration and is straight and free of dents, dings or scuffs and features a fabulous "wo" logo tailgate. Chrome plating is limited to just the front bumper, headlight rims and some exterior hardware, but it is extremely nice, having been restored to the same high standard as the rest of the truck. The cab is trimmed with maroon vinyl upholstery piped in white on the split bench seat as original, with tan cowlboard door cards and a red tweed headlining. Like the rest of this wonderful truck, the work impeccably executed. Being a workhorse means there's little in the way of creature comforts, but it does have an original heater and a quintet of fully restored gauges to keep the driver in tune with happenings under the hood. The dash features a two-tone scheme that mimics the exterior, and the paint finishes, chrome plating and switchgear are all in excellent condition. The transmission is shifted via a column-mounted lever, while the three floor mounted levers control the transfer case in/out, high/low ranges, the in/out for the factory equipped pto. The jack remains in factory location behind the seat, and a basic rubber mat lines the floor. The undercarriage and engine bay are equally well-presented, in basic black finishes on the chassis, axle and suspension components. It is exceptionally clean and tidy underneath, with paint work in the wheel wells as nice as that on the body. We can't help but be big fans of this delightful willys overland jeep truck.

That car had been damaged and returned to Italy where it was reacquired by the works, repaired and put into service as the prototype for the factory’s new 4-seat GT car, earning the name Mexico as a nod to its origins. The body design of the Mexico was inspired by that of an elegant one-off Vignale-bodied 5000GT built for Mexico’s president Adolfo López Mateos. Interestingly, the 4.2 liter was made available later in Mexico production, with only a slight difference in power output but with a lighter, revvier attitude
